So you like silver, gold, and rose gold, but you’re just not sure which one likes you back?

Our general rule of thumb is this: if you feel beautiful in it, then it looks GREAT on you!

However, if that’s just not enough information for you, we get it. (And we see you, Enneagram 5s!) That’s why today we are taking a closer look at how different metals can either clash with or complement each individual’s skin tone.

It’s All About the Undertone

One quick way to tell which metal works best with your skin tone is by taking a look under the hood, so to speak. The undertone of your skin can help determine which metal complements you!

How do you find the undertone? Here are a few methods that might help:

  1. Check your wrist and inner arm for veins. If they are blue or purple, you most likely have a cool undertone. If they are yellow or green, you might have a warm undertone. If you can’t see your veins, you might be dehydrated (sis, go drink some water!) or you might have a neutral undertone.
  2. Do you tan easily? If yes, you might have a warm undertone. If you don’t tan easily, you might have a cool undertone.
  3. When you wear white, does it wash you out? If so, you might have a cool undertone. If you still look vibrant and tan in white, it is more likely that you have a warm undertone.

So, what does that mean for my jewelry selection?

Now that you know your undertone, you can find which metal might suit you best.

Warm Undertone: You like alive and vibrant in yellow (traditional) gold! Silver jewelry might clash more with your skin tone or blend in more than you’d like it to.

Cool Undertone: Your skin pops when you wear silver! When you wear gold, you might look a tad bit washed out.

Neutral Undertone: Lucky you! Your skin can be complemented by either silver or gold. (We are all jealous, so live it up!)

What about Rose Gold?

Rose gold is a beautiful metal that is technically just a pink-tinted gold.

Typically, rose gold pops more on people with a warm skin tone. If you have redness or a pink tint to your skin, rose gold may accentuate that.
